story
Each of the eight songs in the book has lyrics which students learn. The transformation of lyrics into a short story to be studied is a novel experience.
Learning the lyrics of the song prepares the students to easily understand the vocabulary in the short story. Learning the short story is not an exercise in memory but a prologue and preparation for learning to apply Aristotle’s critical thinking questions: what, when, where, how, who and why. In becoming familiar with the critical thinking questions, students are prompted to apply the questions that are given to them. Diagrams provide a visual framework which facilitates applying the critical thinking questions.
