Syntax
The learning of syntax or grammar. Grammar parts are always the boring and mechanical section of a language learning book. To avoid boring, the syntax points in this book are taken from a line in the lyrics of a song they have already mastered. Syntax learning is meaningful because it is connected to what the students have some background knowledge about. Through an elicitation and inductive method syntax is made familiar. Students are asked, “what do you think the syntax point is about?” The students answer the question, and then they are shown a simple explanation about the syntax point, therefore, we are moving from an implicit to an explicit method of explaining the grammatical notes.
This approach to syntax is designed to avoid the tedious and boring repetitive teaching of grammar in many language texts. The overall plan is to expose learners to examples of syntax without burdening them with rule learning. Instead the learners are exposed to examples of the syntax. This is called “consciousness raising”.
