Conversation Creation

The creation of a conversation using a role-playing format. Students choose the role-playing topic they would prefer to write about. The purpose of the role playing is to encourage students to practice their social skills. In most language learning textbooks prescribed conversations are a central feature of language learning. Students practice the prescribed conversations and learn it in a rote way which requires memorization. In this meaningful learning of conversation learning using the EZ method, students are encouraged to create their own unique conversations. Thus, we are encouraging critical thinking by eliciting the knowledge of the students and asking them to put it into practice. Conversational models are available in the endnotes for those students who need more guidance or editing in creating conversations. Adolescents and young adults need to practice their conversational skills. During the course of the role-playing students learn to engage another in a conversation and to convince their partner to cooperate with them. The rhetorical challenge of holding a convincing conversation is a social skill that many young people lack and which they need to improve. This approach is student centered and places students in the foreground because they are being asked to think critically and create.
